About Walk to Defeat MND

With locations across NSW, NT and the ACT, and our Virtual Walk that you can do where and when you like, our Walk to Defeat MND events were created to raise vital funds to support people living with MND.

Thousands of families and friends along with their four-legged friends have taken part. The day consists of raffles, food, fun and of course, the walk!

Money raised through donations and online fundraising helps support people living with MND and their families - providing important assistive equipment, education and information, and additional support.

Let’s Walk together as a community to show people impacted by MND that they are not alone.

On the day information

If you have selected to pick up your Walk t-shirt at the event please go directly to the Walk T-Shirt table to pick up your Walk T-shirt. Please ensure that you wear your wristband on the day (this will be included with your t-shirt when you pick it up).

For your dog to participate in the Walk to Defeat MND, your dog(s) must:

  • be on a leash at all times
  • wear a collar with an identification tag
  • be socialised and generally non-aggressive to people or other dogs
  • be reasonably fit and used to walking distances. If this is your first Walk or your dog is not used to exercise, please ensure you exercise your dog regularly in the lead up to the event and prepare them for the walk. While most paths along the walk route are reasonably flat, they can be quite strenuous on a dog that is not exercised regularly
  • be in reasonable health. If you are unsure whether your dog will be able to complete the walk, please seek veterinary advice prior to joining us on the day. If your dog has had a recent operation, please also seek veterinary advice. Bring pet sunscreen if your dog has a fair/white coat.

What to bring on the day

What to pack for the day out:

  • comfortable walking shoes
  • sunscreen, sunglasses, hat and appropriate outdoor weather clothing
  • bottles of water for the humans for the walk
  • money for raffles or MND merchandise
  • poop bags to collect ' doggy deposits' if you are bringing your dog

Why fundraise

Did you know that your entry fees just cover the costs of staging MND Walk?

It is only through generous donations and fundraising that we can continue to support people living with motor neurone diesease.

why fundraise

What is online fundraising?

Online Fundraising is a platform where you can raise vital funds for the Walk. By creating an online fundraising page, you can direct people to donate straight to this page without the hassle of collecting money, sending in cheques or via bank transfer. Friends and family can support your participation where ever they are in the world.

Taking part couldn't be easier, all you need to do is follow these 2 simple steps.

Step 1: Register for the Walk if you are planning to attend - registration for our 2024 Walk to Defeat MND events is coming soon - join our mailing list here so you can be one of the first to find out when sign-up starts!

You can fundraise for a Walk whether you are planning to attend or not. However, if you are planning to attend a Walk, you do need to register to attend a Walk. If you have not yet registered for the Walk to d’Feet MND, and would like to, please click on the Register Now button for the Walk you plan to attend. We'd love to see you on the day of the event as well as hear that you have been fundraising online to support our cause!

Step 2: Set up an online fundraising page

Your online fundraising page is simple to setup and, in just a matter of minutes, you'll be able to email your friends, family and colleagues to ask them to sponsor your walk!

You can:

  • Create your own online fundraising page to raise funds in an individual name
  • Create your own online fundraising page to raise funds in a team name

Volunteering

Without the help of our wonderful volunteers, it would not be possible for MND NSW to hold such great community events.

The ideal volunteer is someone who is over 16 years of age and doesn’t mind an early start! All volunteers need to have a high level of communication skills, both written and verbal. There is variety of roles on offer to suit all fitness levels. The ideal volunteer will also be a happy and encouraging person, with the ability to work well under pressure and cope with large crowds of eager participants.

I want to volunteer at a Walk to d'Feet MND.
