We'd like to say a big thank you to Bronwyn Hendy and the Yarralumla Uniting Church (YUC) for their Hymnfest and Afternoon Tea for MND fundraiser.
Bronwyn said of the event:
"Around 60 people – aged 0 to 100 – braved a particularly cold, wet and miserable Canberra day on August 9th to sing and raise funds for MND NSW at Yarralumla Uniting Church.
Members and friends of the congregation were asked to submit lists of their favourite hymns and sacred songs during July. This resulted in a list of more than 80 songs, but about 10 of these were clear leaders. They formed the basis of the program and were interspersed with information about the background of each hymn or song and its composer or hymnwriter. The music was led from organ or piano, with flute accompanying, and attendees raised their voices to classics such as “Guide me O thou great Redeemer” and “O for a thousand tongues to sing”. A couple of more modern “classics” (“Shine, Jesus, Shine” and “Come as you are”) made it into the list as well, and some gentler songs such as “Be thou my vision” and “Be still my soul”.
After all that singing, attendees well-and-truly deserved their cups of tea and the fabulous spread produced by church volunteers, making it a warm and sociable afternoon.
Choosing this charity to support had personal meaning for members of the congregation as one of our families uses the wonderful support offered by MND NSW. It was very pleasing to have so many generous people attend, especially in such poor weather, and the $3500 raised for MND support exceeded our expectations."
What a wonderful afternoon of song and community - your efforts in raising awareness and funds mean MND NSW can continue to assist families facing motor neurone disease at every stage of their MND Journey.
