MND Upskill: Living and working with MND (Parramatta)

Join this unique workshop bringing together health and community care professionals, people living with MND and carers for a shared experience. Together we’ll explore the complex nature of MND and you will have the opportunity to meet and network with others who share an interest in MND.

 

 

  

This workshop will cover:

  • What MND is, including variants of MND, causes, genetics, pathology and treatment options
  • Symptoms and their management strategies
  • Support and services available and the role of multidisciplinary care team
  • Overview of available assistive technologies. The afternoon will showcase a range of equipment from the FlexEquip equipment library, including practical demonstrations of various communication devices – voice amplifier, iPad and communication apps, EyeGaze and more.
  • Insights and experiences shared by people living with MND and their support networks

Who should attend:

  • Health and community care professionals. This session is suitable for health and community care professionals from all disciplines, including allied health professionals, care coordinators and paid support workers. All professionals regardless of your level of experience working with people living with MND are encouraged to register
  • People living with MND and their informal support network

Certificate of attendance:

Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance after the session, along with a selection of resources. 

Registration and cost:

The cost of this event is $20 per person for Health and community care professionals.

This event is without cost for people living with MND and their informal support network (family and friends).

Light refreshments will be provided.

Places are limited – early registration recommended.

If you have previously attended a MND Upskill workshop delivered by MND NSW, there is no need to attend this session as the core content will be similar.

About the workshop facilitator

Dr Sadaf Warraich, Education Coordinator, MND NSW

Dr Sadaf Warraich holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from the University of Sydney. Her research in the field of MND focused on investigating the molecular, cellular, and biochemical basis of MND. Dr Warraich also worked as a Post-doctoral fellow in MND research at Macquarie University. Beyond her research endeavours, Dr Warraich has held teaching positions in various education settings.
